Here’s some prices so you know what you can realistically expect while you are here (apart from a great time!)

Living in New Zealand – Accommodation

Average price for city rentals is $200 per week, this can obviously vary depending on city, location and space but it’s a median guide line to start.

Food:  Supermarkets can be expensive here especially if you are trying to buy products you would normally eat at home. If you shop seasonally and use fruit and vege shops or markets, you can eat for approximately $100 per week.

If you are in shared accommodation and sharing meals with flatmates, then this can be more like $10 a day.  If you want to eat out, you can expect to get takeaways for around $10 or a restaurant is on average $15-30 for a main course.

Accommodation for Summer Internships:

Campus Living Villages offers accommodation throughout the summer providing a perfect environment for students participating in an internship programme. With central locations in Auckland (City, North Shore and Albany), Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch, they can accommodate individuals and groups. Visit Campus Living Villages to learn more.

Living in New Zealand – Travel

Public transport within the main cities is good. New Zealanders are big car users so it’s not up to European standards.

If you are taking an internship out of the main city centres, then it’s a good idea to buy a car. It is relatively easy to find a second hand car and insurance is a lot lower than it is in Europe.

Current petrol prices in New Zealand are around $2 per litre NZD.
